Dental Emergencies: The Procedures Involved to Save Your Tooth

Woman being prepared for a dental procedure by attending dentist and assistantManaging a dental emergency can get quite complicated if you are in pain. Nevertheless, you have to find a way to save your tooth that is at risk while on your way to the dentist.

Keep the following procedures in mind if you do encounter the need for emergency dental care in Cardiff.

These are provided by dental offices such as Andrew Thomas Dental Care:

1. If your tooth breaks, keep the area clean by rinsing your mouth with warm water.
Ease its inflammation by applying a cold compress, then immediately head to your dentist.

2. If any of your teeth gets knocked out, hold it by the crown. If it is dirty, rinse it with water, but do not remove or scrub off connected tissue fragments. Gently put it back in its socket if it is possible. Otherwise, keep it in a cup filled with milk and bring it with you to the dentist.

3. If you have an unbearable toothache, use warm water to rinse it and floss gently to get rid of food stuck around it. Never consider applying aspirin on the gum tissues or tooth and meet up with your dentist as soon as you can.

4.If you happen to bite your tongue or lip, gently clean it with a cloth before putting on cold compress to reduce puffiness. Those that bleed heavily or for some time need to see their dentist as soon as possible.

5. If your braces have a broken or loose wire, cover the end of the wire with a piece of gauze, cotton ball or beeswax until you reach your dentist’s clinic. On the other hand, seek emergency dental care if the wire gets stuck in your gum tissue, cheek or tongue.

Do not attempt on pulling it out by yourself.

It is essential that you are aware of the common dental emergencies and the procedures to treat them until you get to your dentist’s clinic. Such accidents can happen anytime, whether it is day or night, so it would be best to have these in mind for future reference.
